Why Organic?
Certified organic cotton benefits are two-fold. The first being the improvement in quality-of-life of the farmers, the second being the quality of the cotton sewn. Organic cotton grows amongst a variety of other plants and flora and is harvested by hand. The natural growing environment and harvesting methods give the cotton a much softer, delicate feel.
Who & Where
Our organic cotton comes from small farming communities across the Indian regions Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha and Telangana.
Beyond The Fabric
Organic farming in India, predominantly cotton, was originally adopted by smaller rural farmers to ensure long-term sustenance of soil fertility, protection of environment and ecology, healthy living and decreased risk of health ailments (thanks to less exposure to loosely regulated herbicides and pesticides).
Despite lower yields (about 15% of traditional cotton farming), the improved quality-of-life and profit margins allow smaller farms to thrive.
How It's Made
Organic cotton goes through a rigorous process before entering a long, complicated supply chain. First, the seeds must be carefully sourced from non-Bt (non-GMO) seed breeders. Then they must be grown and harvested according to certified organic methods. Next, the cotton must be ginned and spun in facilities uncontaminated by errant Bt threads, then washed, dyed, cut, sewn, and, finally, sold to you - conscientious individuals based mainly in Europe and North America.
